West Coast Drive of South Island
Blue Pools – Stop Over Enroute

The western coastal route of South Island is totally contrasting from rest of the island and has varied scenic beauty, with the landscape changing every few kilometers. The initial inland drive goes through hilly winding roads with mountains and lakes on one side, and green patches of grass on the other side, As you go further towards the coast, the rolling pastures give way to towering rocky mountains of Southern Alps. The winding coastal road tunnels through cliffs, with the pale aquamarine waters of Pacific on one side and mighty wall of Southern Alps on the other, giving the image of mountains leaping straight out of shore at places – an unforgettable sight. The west coast really is one of the most astonishingly beautiful landscapes on the planet, but its biggest attraction lies hidden in the waters of the ocean – an undersea world of creatures and structures.
